It’s the early 90s, and in a Coyoacán cabaret, word spreads that someone has spotted Chavela Vargas in the crowd. Although the world has long since written her off as dead, cabaret performers Liliana and Jesusa set out to find her—and they actually do. Chavela is in her seventies, heartbroken after the love of her life left her, and hell-bent on drinking herself to death. Even so, the artists convince her to sing at their club. That’s where a Spaniard catches her act, and Chavela claws her way toward a chance to perform in Spain—an improbable comeback after twenty years away from the spotlight.

Meanwhile, in Madrid, Rebeca is a rebellious twenty-something working as a production assistant on the set of High Heels. When Almodóvar decides to back Vargas’s return, Rebeca is unexpectedly tasked with being Chavela’s driver. Though they clash at first, an unlikely friendship begins to bridge the gap between their different worlds and generations. As they drive, Chavela reveals her life story to the young woman, retracing the extraordinary path that made her a legend as a lesbian ranchera singer.

  • Chavela falleció y dejó como única heredera universal a María Cortina

  • María Cortina escribió y publicó un libro sobre la vida de Chavela

  • Miracol cuenta con el archivo personal de Chavela

  • Miracol adquirió los derechos del libro y firmó un acuerdo con María Cortina para llevar la vida de Chavela a una serie de televisión

  • Miracol ha realizado la inversión para mantener la relación con María y el pago de la licencia

  • Hace dos años, por decisión comercial, se decidió incorporar a Caracol y Kate del Castillo, lo que resultó en pérdida de protagonismo para la historia original

  • Miracol retoma el proyecto y cuenta con un acuerdo con Shine Iberia:

    • Shine Iberia aporta el 40% del presupuesto de producción

    • A cambio obtiene los derechos del territorio de España

    • No existe ningún compromiso con Kate del Castillo

  • Se realizaron ajustes de contenido con base en el feedback recibido

    • Socio LATAM: 40% del costo del proyecto

    • Miracol: 20%

    • Shine Iberia: 40% (ya comprometido)
